We have an exciting opportunity for someone who is highly motivated, with drive and enthusiasm to join our Purchasing Team.
You will be reporting directly to the Managing Director and will be responsible for the supply of goods and services across the business, leading and developing the purchasing process whilst delivering first class customer service to internal and external customers and suppliers.
We are currently in the process of updating our eRP system, to Business Central therefore a knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics/BC is desirable. It is expected that this will allow the new Purchasing Manager the opportunity to develop and deploy a modern electronic purchasing system including MRP.
The Role
- Understand buying both products and components from the UK and offshore and dealing with extensive lead-times from these areas
- To locate new suppliers and develop current ones that fit with the agreed company supply strategy, both in the UK and worldwide
- Develop a working relationship and strategy with other group companies to maximise the potential combined buying power
- As an ISO registered company you will need to ensure full compliance with all expected criteria and procedures in the purchasing area (e.g. supplier approval) that the company identifies as necessary
- Work with the technical team on developing new suppliers, products and components
- Engage with the different functional areas in the UK to provide a comprehensive buying service including lead times and stock availability
- To manage purchase planning/stock holding levels (including redundant stock) to meet the agreed company targets
- In partnership with the accounts team to manage trading terms and make these visible
- To oversee any supplier issues including quality and deliveries, and providing robust feed back into the relevant functional areas
- Manage and train a small team to support the above
- To take ownership of all aspects of purchasing
The Person
- Some engineering knowledge desirable but will be supported by the group technical teams where appropria
- Background in manufacturing would be advantageous
- A commitment to continuous improvement
- Effective communication skills and the ability to influence and motivate others
- Experienced in developing and implementing policies, procedures, and strategies to achieve best results
