Meet The Team -

Josh Dale -  IT Systems & Project Support Technician

What name/nickname fo you prefer to be called?

I am happy with anything really “Josh”, “Dale”, “IT Guy”, “Wizard”, just so long as you don’t use my full name as that tends to mean I’ve done something wrong!

If you could write your own job title that best describes what you do here, what would it be?

Well my full title is “IT Systems & Project Support Technician” but I could go one of two ways with this to make it a bit shorter as it can be a mouthful. I like “IT Infrastructure Engineer” as that basically encompasses all IT within this business. However, if I could have fun with it and call myself the “IT Necromancer” because I bring PC’s back from the dead 😊

What do you enjoy about the work you do?

It may sound corny as it’s my job but I really do have a passion for IT. I love being around all the different systems, learning how they work and fit together and seeing how I (based on my experiences and personal knowledge) can improve all of them to make life easier for myself and everyone else in the business. I also really like the fact that I am not just a voice on the phone, I can come to someone and put a human face on my trade so to speak and work with colleagues to resolve any issues or questions they may have. Having that personal side to the job really boosts my morale and I am hoping it does the same for others too.

What are your hobbies?

As you can imagine a lot of my hobbies revolve around IT, I have built my own computers at home to play games on with my friends as well my own servers, switches and a lot of other technical stuff that I won’t go into as I’m sure people are getting bored reading this by now 😊 My favourite pastime is spending time with my better half and her dog Bruno (10st. Rottweiler). We love watching David Attenborough on Netflix and going for walks so Bruno can make new friends and be the happy dog that he is.

What Volunteering or passion projects do you do outside work?

At the start of the first lockdown period for Covid-19 I was put on furlough and during that time and I did some volunteer remote IT Support for a dog charity in Cumbria that was debating moving their IT to Office 365 so they could use MS Teams for home working which was a great experience. I was able to provide them with a non-biased opinion and put them in touch with a 3rd party that could give them a special Charity 365 licence at a 10th of the cost of normal licences which during this period was crucial for their business so that they could save money where possible and carry on their great work with neglected animals.
