1 - Tripods for Confined Access

Advantages of Using Tripods for Confined Access
  • Portable and Lightweight
  • Quick Setup - Can be deployed quickly, often by one or two workers.
  • Suited for vertical access points.
    *Don’t work for offset entries.
Requirements and limitations
  • Requires space around the access point to set up legs.
Problematic in cluttered or cramped environments.
  • Needs a stable and relatively level surface.

Applications

  • Vertical confined spaces such as manholes, storage tanks, vaults, and utility holes.
  • Rescue Operations.
  • Workers, engineers, and inspectors for accessing underground or enclosed work sites.

Main aspects when configuring a davit arm

  1.   Portable System or Fixed Base?

  • Portable - Versatile for flat surfaces where equipment can be supported, and where access is not common.
  • Fixed Base - For recurrent use, multiple bases available, for all types of environments or spaces.

  2.   Required arm reach and Heigth

Consider the necessary space between the anchorage of the arm and the place where the worker will be secured, taking into account if there is a handrail or obstacles that require a longer reach. These are the standard lengths:

  • 385mm, 450mm and 601mm
  • 775mm, 915mm and 1219mm
  • 1524 to 2438mm.

  3.  Retractable system / Winch and its anchorage Bracket

1- Fixed or Portable Davit Arm?

Fixed Base
Portable Base
  • Ideal for recurrent work points.
  • Increased load capacity
  • Best for indoor/workshop use.
  • Can be anchored to floors, walls or concrete or steel structures.
  • Useful for temporary projects.
  • More limited workload.
  • Versatile for traffic areas (indoor/outdoor).
  • Needs firm and level ground, floor/wall or by using counterweights or vehicles as anchorages.
