Practical Lifting and Slinging Beneath the Hook 

PRE-COURSE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: 

  • All delegates must be able to certify that they are physically fit and have no medical conditions that might prevent them carrying out lifting techniques (A list of conditions that could affect practical training are available on request.)
  • SpanSet reserves the right to exclude unsuitable delegates from training courses.
  • Delegate must be 18 years or over.

Overview:

This entry level course is designed for personnel who intend to carry out basic, non-complex or routine lifting operations using manual lifting appliances & general-purpose lifting accessories.

 The training course comprises of both theory & practical elements  

Training Aims & Objectives: 

  • Identify Legislation relevant to conducting lifting activities – Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, LOLER 1998 & PUWER 1998.
  • Understand common lifting terminology & how it applies to general purpose lifting equipment.
  • Understand the methods that can be used to establish the load weight, centre of gravity & potential hazards pertaining loads.
  • Overview & safe use of general-purpose lifting accessories in including modes of use & uniform load method rating of slings (Items covered: lifting eyes, synthetic slings, chain slings, wire rope slings & shackles).
  • Overview & Safe use of manual lifting appliance’s (Items covered: chain block & lever hoist).
  • Conduct pre-use inspection of general-purpose lifting accessories & manual lifting machines.
  • Review & follow a 9-Point Lifting Procedure
  • Follow a basic, non-complex lift plan, practically slinging & lifting a load
  • Create a basic, non-complex lift plan, practically slinging & lifting a load

Certification

  • On successful completion candidates will receive a SpanSet certificate valid for three years.
