Achieve maximum pre-tensioning force in a cost-efficient and accurate way.
With the TFI (Tension Force Indicator), you can easily monitor the actual pre-tensioning force achieved in the lashing system. This makes it possible to demonstrate that up to 60% fewer lashing straps are required for safe cargo securing. The TFI is suitable for both the ratchet and the adjustable end (optionally with a special coupling piece). Thanks to the clear signal colours, the pre-tensioning force can be read quickly and easily, even in poor lighting conditions.
Normally, additional electronic measuring devices are used to determine the pre-tensioning force. While highly accurate, these devices are also expensive. More than ten years ago, SpanSet developed a unique mechanical solution for this: the Tension Force Indicator (TFI). The TFI reliably indicates the actual pre-tensioning force achieved and is mounted directly onto the tensioning mechanism. This protects the system effectively and makes it particularly easy to read. Many of our products are now equipped with a TFI as standard, eliminating the need for costly measuring equipment.
Advantages of the TFI for cargo securing
The TFI helps you make optimal use of lashing straps and achieve maximum performance from the tensioning system. Thanks to the integrated pre-tensioning force indicator, the applied pre-tensioning force can easily be checked and demonstrated during inspections or controls. When tension is applied to the system, the two jaws of the TFI gradually close.
Once the full pre-tensioning force has been reached, the jaws close completely together. This allows the actual pre-tensioning force present in the system to be demonstrated quickly and directly. If the lashing strap loses tension during transport, the jaws will no longer close completely, immediately indicating that re-tensioning may be required.
The Tension Force Indicator has been specifically developed for 50 mm lashing straps and is available in various versions with pre-tensioning force indicators of 500 daN (green), 750 daN (red), and 1,000 daN (yellow), matched to the corresponding lashing systems. Thanks to the use of signal colours, the pre-tensioning force can also be read easily, even in poor lighting conditions.
Additional application of the TFI on the adjustable end
In addition to using the TFI on the ratchet part, the TFI can also be applied to the adjustable end of the lashing system. A special coupling piece is available for this purpose. In addition, SpanSet has developed a specially designed safety hook to which the TFI can easily be attached. This provides additional cost savings, as no adapter is required in that case.
Besides achieving an even higher demonstrable level of pre-tensioning force, the K-factor (1.5) becomes less relevant, since a demonstrable cargo securing force can also be proven at the adjustable end.
In addition to improving overall safety, the unique TFI also guarantees the necessary traceability towards authorities and has been included as a system component in the GS test descriptions. As a result, the SpanSet Tension Force Indicator not only improves cost efficiency, but also increases safety within cargo securing systems.
