Podcast: Load securing and VDI guideline 2700

Work on the new version of the VDI guideline “Load securing on road vehicles” (VDI 2700, sheets 8, 8.1 and 8.2) took several years. The publication of the green print in October 2023 marks the start of the final adoption phase. Objections to the contents of the green print are still possible until December 31, 2023.

Sheet 8.1 describes the securing of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles with an actual mass of up to 4.5 tons on vehicle transporters. Sheet 8.2 deals with the securing of heavy commercial vehicles up to 20 tons. Sheet 8 (test requirements) is a new addition.

It must be assumed that shippers will strictly demand compliance with VDI 2700 as soon as it comes into force. For SpanSet sales staff, the newly published green print therefore offers a good opportunity to put the topic of load securing on vehicle transporters on the agenda for customers. The CarFix and TruckFix products developed by SpanSet fulfill all the requirements described in the directive text. This also applies to the newly introduced Eta value. It expresses the efficiency of the controller, which ensures that the belt tension is distributed as evenly as possible on both sides of the tire during lashing. The minimum requirement of the VDI guideline is: greater than 0.5. CarFix and TruckFix achieve up to 0.7. The term Eta value goes back to the Greek letter.

At the beginning of October 2023, the trade magazine “Arbeitsschutz - aber sicher!” published a podcast on the subject of load securing on road vehicles. In the expert talk in the series “Nicht-ganz-ungefährlich”, industry insider and editor Dietmar Bleck interviews SpanSet product manager Werner Glasen.

The 30-minute conversation begins with a discussion about the company SpanSet, its product range and its involvement in standards committees. A little bit of company history is also included - after all, Werner Glasen has been working for SpanSet in various positions since 1991 and has a lot to tell. After about ten minutes, the topic switches to the new VDI guideline “Load securing on road vehicles” (VDI 2700, sheets 8, 8.1 and 8.2).
