Why the Gotcha® Rescuer Badge Was Created

Pete Ward, MD explains the thinking behind the badge:

“In the workplace, if accidents occur, we need to be prepared to act quickly. Having a list of qualified first aiders and a clearly marked first aid kit certainly helps — but the first time I saw a first aid helmet sticker, I thought it just made sense. Not only can you spot trained people more easily, you also begin to remember who they are — just in case.”

While rescue from height is not relevant to every worker, it is essential for anyone using fall arrest harnesses and lanyards.

“When we created the Gotcha® range of rescue kits, it was important that they stood out — just like a fire extinguisher or first aid kit. The training we provide ensures rescuers are confident and capable should they ever be required. The Gotcha® Rescuer Helmet Badge helps people on site quickly identify trained rescuers — and remember them when it matters most."

Rescue Readiness on Site

Rescue from height must begin immediately and on site — relying solely on the emergency services is neither practical nor compliant with the Work at Height Regulations.

The Gotcha® Rescuer Helmet Badge supports this by:

  • Clearly identifying trained Gotcha® rescuers on site
  • Reinforcing awareness of rescue responsibilities
  • Helping teams act quickly and decisively in an emergency

It’s a simple visual cue with a powerful safety benefit.
