IMPORTANT UPDATE Re COVID 19 and EUS / MATS Basic Tower Climbing & Rescue Scheme Registrations

The Energy & Utilities Skills Register (EUSR) is the online register of training and skills for the energy and utilities sector.

The background:

EUS (Energy & Utility Skills) collaborate with employers, stakeholders and regulators to support the recruitment, training and upskilling of the energy and utilities sector workforce.

The Mast and Tower Safety (MATS): Basic Tower Climbing & Rescue scheme is a skills-based scheme designed to support the safety of those individuals who work on towers and masts in the telecommunications and broadcast industry.  The scheme recognises the skills and underpinning knowledge required to safely and competently climb and undertake rescues from towers and masts.  Individuals successfully completing the programme qualify for registration on EUSR for Basic Tower Climbing & Rescue.

Individuals climbing masts and towers and those who need to renew their current climbing training certificates need to undertake the Basic Tower Climbing & Rescue scheme available through Energy & Utility Skills (EUS) Approved Providers.

SpanSet were delighted to gain EUS approval for MATS Tower Climber and Rescue Courses in early 2020

The MATS Basic Tower Climbing & Rescue scheme consists of two parts:

In collaboration with the MATS group, EUS recently reviewed the impact of the current COVID-19 situation on individuals wishing to register onto the scheme and have agreed the following will apply with immediate effect:

  • All individuals new to Tower Climbing & Rescue must undertake the 3-day Initial training programme.
  • An individual with an Arqiva certificate for Tower Climbing only or Rescue only, regardless of the expiry date, must undertake the 3-day Initial training programme.
  • An individual with Arqiva certificates for both Tower Climbing & Rescue and which expired on or before 28 February 2020, must undertake the 3-day Initial training programme.
  • An individual with Arqiva certificates for both Tower Climbing & Rescue and which have/are due to expire between 01 March 2020 and 20 September 2020 where they have been unable to undertake Renewal training due to COVID-19, are permitted to undertake the 1-day Renewal training programme.

EUS state they will continue to monitor the situation regarding registrations and issue further guidance where appropriate.
