Basic Height Safety - Rooftops and Structures (Fire Officers)
PRE-COURSE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Officers must have successfully completed our theory foundation course Safety Harness and Introduction to Work at Height before progressing onto this practical training.
TRAINING AIMS
A course designed to provide officers with the knowledge and practical skills to work safely in the vicinity of unprotected edges, on steep ground or slightly angled rooftops.

COURSE SYLLABUS
Theory/Practical
In addition to the theory elements of 'Safety Harness and Introduction to Work at Height' the following topics will be covered:
- What constitutes an unprotected edge
- What constitutes steep ground and when to use work position techniques
- The importance of avoidance of hazards where possible
- Correct risk assessment when setting up working systems and knowing their limitations
- Exposure to height
- Anchor selection
- Work restraint systems
- Work positioning systems
- Fall arrest systems
- Correct fitting and adjustment of all harness types
- The safe use of all styles of fall arrest lanyards
- Ladder climbing using in-situ fall arrest systems
- Ladder climbing using temporary fall arrest systems
- Installation of flexible type fall arrest systems
- Installation and use of temporary horizontal line systems
- Use and installation of SpanSet roof ladder restraint system
- Use and variations of restraint systems
- Application of security oversteep ground
- The importance of rescue provision.
All of the practical systems must be demonstrated and their correct applications understood by all delegates in order to complete the course.
