The SpanSet SVLB-2 is a retractable type fall arrest block (self-retracting lanyard) designed for personal fall protection when working at height. The unit uses a 2m lifeline of cut-resistant Technora® webbing, 25mm wide, housed in a compact aluminium body measuring 410 x 86 x 72mm (including karabiners) and weighing 1384g. An internal energy-absorbing brake mechanism locks the lifeline on rapid extension while allowing free, smooth pay-out during normal movement, limiting arrest force to 4kN and keeping loads on both the worker and the anchorage low. 

The lifeline has a minimum breaking load of 15kN and the unit is rated to a capacity load of 150kg. A triple action karabiner with an ANSI 16kN gate rating is fitted at both the top and bottom connection points. A webbing tear-away fall indicator is built into the lifeline, giving a clear, immediate visual sign if the block has arrested a fall, so it can be identified and removed from service before reuse. 

The SVLB-2 is certified to AS1891.3:1997, and is intended for overhead anchorage use only, connected above the worker's head height at all times. As with all fall arrest equipment, the SVLB-2 should be inspected before each use and subject to periodic inspection by a competent person in line with AS/NZS 1891.4.

The SVLB-2 is suited to industrial and construction sites where workers need reliable fall arrest while moving along elevated walkways, roof edges, plant platforms, or scaffolding. Its low weight and compact housing make it practical for riggers, roofers, steel erectors, and maintenance crews who need a fall arrest device that doesn't restrict movement or add bulk to a harness set-up. Common applications include tie-off points on rooftops, gantries, and mobile plant, as well as general height access tasks where a fixed-length lanyard would be too restrictive. Because the unit is rated for overhead anchorage only, it is typically connected to a fixed anchor point, static line, or beam trolley positioned above the worker, with the lower karabiner connecting to the dorsal or sternal attachment point of a compliant full body harness.
