Develop the skills and confidence to safely load, unload and secure goods and cargo in line with Australian regulations. This practical two-day course covers load restraint, cargo protection, dangerous goods awareness and the correct use of lashing equipment, leading to nationally recognised units TLID0015 Load and Unload Goods/Cargo and TLIA1001 Secure Cargo.
- Safely load and unload goods and cargo in accordance with Australian regulations.
- Secure and protect loads using approved load restraint methods.
- Lash and unlash cargo using appropriate equipment and techniques.
- Protect cargo from weather and environmental conditions.
- Pack and unpack cargo safely and efficiently.
- Understand the requirements of the Australian Dangerous Goods Code (ADG Code).
- Recognise International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) markings and labels.
- Apply the National Transport Commission’s Load Restraint Guide.
- Identify and manage hazards associated with cargo handling activities.
- Estimate load size, weight, shape and special handling requirements.
- Complete required transport and compliance documentation.
- Correctly use lashing and lifting equipment.
- Achieve nationally recognised Statements of Attainment for TLID0015 Load and Unload Goods/Cargo and TLIA1001 Secure Cargo.

Entry Requirements
Students should have a good level of the English language to be able to appropriately communicate on a worksite, be able to read, interpret and apply safety signs, adjust work methods in response to changing weather and site conditions and identify (and set controls for) workplace hazards. A preliminary assessment for these entry requirements is necessary.

Assessment
Students will need to demonstrate:
- Underpinning knowledge by completing of a series of short-answer questions (theory assessment), and

Necessary practical skills to:
- identify, analyse and mitigate hazards,
- estimate load size, shape and special requirements,
- sort, stack, secure, check, protect and inspect a load, and
- use lashing and lifting equipment.
Training Outcome
All successful students will receive a Statement of Attainment for the following units of competency:
TLID0015 Load and unload goods/cargo,
and
TLIA1001 Secure cargo

What do you need to bring?
Please wear appropriate clothing (long trousers, long-sleeved shirts) and covered, sturdy footwear.
At our training facilities, we will supply all the appropriate equipment and PPE to undertake the training and assessment activities in this course. If this course is delivered within your workplace, we will liaise with your Training Manager for the supply of this equipment.
Please also bring:
- Completed Enrolment paperwork (if not already sent in to us),
- Proof of Identification e.g., birth certificate; driver’s license, Medicare card, passport, over 18 Card etc. which must include a photo
- Pen and a notepad,
- USI number if it has already been allocated (please refer to the USI section in the Student Handbook for further explanation).
