Meet the Team

Simon Mitchell - Technical Consultant

What name/nickname do you prefer to be called?

Stumpy. I assume it's due to my physique.

If you could write your own job title that best describes what you do here, what would it be?

Technical Consultant. I worked for many years within SpanSet’s training department, developing and delivering education and training in the use of height safety, lifting and load control equipment.  I now use my experience, working closely with our customers and partners to help them find the best solutions to the various Height Safety, Lifting and Load Control challenges they have.

What are your hobbies?

I enjoy spending my free time out of doors with family and friends. I like to get out on the trails on my mountain bike, walking with family and skiing when the conditions permit. I also spend the weekends sailing my yacht on Windermere in the lake district. I can also be found stood in a river with a fly fishing rod in hand.

What do you enjoy about the work you do?

Many people say their job is varied but my role really is. I visit a diverse range of customers, for example in the last few months: Installation of fall arrest systems onboard an ice patrol ship, writing safe systems of work for a cleaning product manufacturing facility and designing load restraint schemes for the transport of off-shore raiding craft. In addition to my work with our customers I aid in the design, development and testing of products.

What volunteering or passion projects do you do outside of work?

My current passion is my little yacht “Papillon II” sailing, maintaining and worrying if she has survived our varied UK weather.
