Meet The Team

Alex Barnes - Training Instructor

What name/nickname do you prefer to be called?

Alex

If you could write your own job title that best describes what you do here, what would it be?

Work at Height/Lifting Instructor. I travel across the UK training candidates in a wide variety of courses.  I’ve worked at SpanSet for over 9 years, having previously been a retained firefighter.  Of course, I was able to bring many skills to my new role, however was also supported and trained by SpanSet as I learnt my new trade as a fully qualified Instructor.

What do you enjoy about the work your do?

The opportunity it gives me to visit different locations around the UK and to meet a wide variety of people.  Running a tower crane rescue course in Plymouth has some spectacular views.  It’s satisfying when candidates thank us for their training and say how much they have appreciated and enjoyed the course.

What are your hobbies?

As I work full time and am often away from home mid week I am no longer a retained firefighter, however I missed it so am now a RAF Reservist which keeps me busy at the weekend.

What volunteering or passion projects do you do outside of work?

My wife and family are active within our local community organising many charity events, church fetes etc.  I’m often called upon to help and enjoy supporting them with the setting up etc.
