Meet the Team - Liam Wright

Deputy Training Manager

Liam  Wright is a professional Rope Access, Work at Height & Rescue instructor with over 20 years of operational and Instructional experience. Liam has travelled all over the UK and abroad, providing training and consultancy for specialist operations departments within Police Forces, Emergency response teams & various blue-chip companies.

What name/nickname do you prefer to be called?

Liam – fortunately not easily shortened.

If you could write your own job title that best describes what you do here, what would it be?

My official title is Deputy Training Manager and I support Sam Wilkinson our Training Manager.

I worked ‘on the ropes’ as a Level 3 Ropes Access Technician for many years before joining my Dad, Mark Wright as an IRATA Instructor at ‘Mark Wright Training’ where I worked for 10 years as an IRATA Instructor.  In 2017 my Dad closed the Rope Access Training Company choosing to focus his efforts on providing ‘Work at Height & Rescue Training’ on Super yachts (Nice work if you can get it!).  I contacted SpanSet, as I had previously been impressed with their Training facilities & knew they were in need of an additional Instructor & I’ve been working there ever since. It’s a pleasure to provide safety critical training for various industries that can make a real difference to the safety of operators working at height.

I am also SpanSet’s ‘Media Tech Guy’ 😊 and run lead on SpanSet’s Digital Training Media.

What do you enjoy about the work you do?

I enjoy teaching skills so people can work safely at height, especially IRATA courses where I help candidates progress from having no WAH knowledge to passing their Level 1 and being happy working on the ropes.

I have a real interest in AV (audio visual) tech, having studied Digital Design at college and love that I can combine this with my industry knowledge to produce various digital Training media for SpanSet.

What are your hobbies?

I am a keen gamer, having played Eve-online for over 16 years.  I have excellent PA and audio systems and enjoy adding to and tinkering about with these.

What volunteering or passion projects do you do outside of work?

My passion is building Track Cars – I have driven at the Nurburgring many times and am about to embark on my next project – a Mazda MX5!
