Pete at work above ground as a SpanSet Instructor.

Meet The Team -

Pete Knight - Instructor (Freelance)

What name/nickname do you prefer to be called?

Pete (or CaverPete)

If you could write your own job title that best describes what you do here, what would it be?

Freelance Height Safety Trainer and PFPE Inspector. I prefer not to hide that I’m not a full-time trainer at SpanSet because I think it is a positive thing that I’m out in the world doing the stuff as well as teaching it. In any given month I could be inspecting high ropes courses and zip wires, installing or testing anchor bolts, taking people caving, assessing caving instructors, or acting as a technical advisor for cave and mine exploration. I work at height both above and below ground, and that continually challenges me and broadens my experience.

What do you enjoy about the work you do?

Spending time with a range of different people from different backgrounds and industries. The work at SpanSet feels like I’m genuinely helping to make the working world a safer place and increase skills and confidence for our delegates. Delivering courses at the modern and well equipped Middlewich training centre is a joy.

What are your hobbies? What volunteering or passion projects do you do outside of work?

I am both a recreational and professional caver when not working at SpanSet. My background has been in the outdoor industry for the last 20 years and has taken me all over (and under) the UK. I spend my free time volunteering as the Projects Officer for the Derbyshire Caving Association and as a Controller for the Derbyshire Cave Rescue Organisation. I’m also a keen photographer and dabble in both wildlife and landscape photography, as well as some caving photography of course.

(Caver Pete) is both a recreational and professional caver and volunteers as both Project Office for the Derbyshire Caving Association and as a Controller for the Derbyshire Cave Rescue Organisation.
