ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

Officers must be part of the Driver Training Unit responsible for the deployment of the Stinger Spike System

AIMS:

The day is designed to enhance officers existing knowledge, understanding & practical skills prior to, during, and post deployment of the Stinger Spike System.

The scope of the day includes the UK approach & procedures for the deployment of the Stinger Spike System, the device requirements of use, care and maintenance.

SYLLABUS:

Theory

Introduction to SpanSet & Federal Signals
Importance of Stinger Spike System Training & Collaboration between UK Police Forces
UK Legislation relevant to the use, care & maintenance of the Stinger Spike System
Components of the Stinger Spike System
Stinger spike system lengths, configurations & suitability for different road types
Introduction to the Rat Trap device for use on static vehicles
Stinger Device recommended handling techniques including correct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Review of Deployment/Concealment locations & their suitability
Deployment methods – Pull & Push
Pre-Use checks & Inspection
Spike Replacement – Including a Practical Activity
Product development ideas/networking

Practice Pull Deployment

Deployment of device on a moving subject vehicle at differing speeds
Retraction of the device before police vehicle
