SpanSet #DeliveringSafely with Driver CPC Training Courses

The European Union published the Driver Certificate of Professional Competence, (CPC) Directive in 2003, affecting all professional LGV and PCV drivers who are required to have a Driver Qualification Card (DQC). There are a few exemptions, however essentially if driving an HGV / LGV (licence categories C, C1, C1+E or C+E), then Driver CPC is a legal obligation. Professional PCV drivers with equivalent licences are also required to hold a DQC.

Whether the DQC was gained as part of the drivers’ initial licence acquisition or by attending Driver CPC training courses, Driver CPC is an ongoing requirement and designed to improve the knowledge and skills of drivers, as well as enhancing safety on our roads.

35 hours of periodic training is required every 5 years to keep a Driver CPC to drive a lorry, bus or coach. Only courses that have been approved by the Joint Approvals Unit for Periodic Training (JAUPT) will count towards the Periodic Training requirement. There is a fine of up to £1,000 for driving professionally without one.

SpanSet’s Load Restraint Appreciation and Inspection training is an ideal, 7 hour course to complete towards CPC qualification, offering real benefits and knowledge to those taking it.

The course is intended for professional HGV drivers and transport managers that want to take the guess work out of securing a load safely and understand their legal responsibilities for transporting a load on UK highways. Just throwing a lashing over a load doesn’t mean it’s secure, especially when the lashing used isn’t strong enough and in poor condition.

SpanSet’s innovative course, using state of the art training aids, including practical hands-on experience enables the delegates to:

  • Understand their responsibilities, complying with Road Traffic & Health & Safety Law
  • Identify the causes of load shift & the forces acting on the load during transit
  • Assess the load and the vehicle suitability
  • Select the correct method of securing
  • Direct & Frictional Lashing
  • Choose the right number of lashings with the correct load rating
  • Carryout a pre-use check of web & chain lashings using inspection checklists
