How Tension Affects Cargo Transport

In a friction tie-down (over-the-top lashing), the straps do not hold the cargo directly; instead, they press the cargo downward onto the truck bed.

The tension in the strap creates a downward force. This force multiplies the friction between the cargo and the floor, locking the load in place.

How does the TFI work?

The two jaws of the TFI close when tension is added.

The pre-tensioning force display makes it simple for you to measure the pre-tensioning force applied and to provide evidence of this with no problems in the event of a check.

What are the benefits of having an integrated Tension (Stf) indicator?

1 - Efficiency

Knowing the applied tension and the lashing calculations could significantly reduce the number of lashings you use, thereby cutting costs and time spent on the job.

2 - Safety

Allows you to objectively check the applied tension.

It allows you to verify that the load has been properly secured, reducing the risk of slipping and accidents

3 - Verification

Vibrations and movements during transport can cause the tension to decrease.

With the TFI, you can easily check whether the tension is being maintained or if it needs to be retensioned

4 - Demonstration

You will be able to objectively demonstrate to the relevant authorities that the cargo has been properly secured, using evidence.

Additional use of TFI at adjustable end

For this, there is an adaptor available for the TFI which can be integrated into the current end fittings.

SpanSet has specially designed a delta hook to which the TFI can easily be attached. This results in an additional cost saving, as no adaptor is then required. Alongside the even higher verifiable pre-tensioning force, the K-factor (1.5) is no longer significant, as a lashing force can also be proven at the adjustable end.
