A Successful Scaffold Technical Day

The SpanSet Team demonstrating a rescue at height using the SpanSet Gotcha2 Rescue Kit.

On November 7th, SpanSet held our latest Technical Day, in partnership with Simian at The London Academy of Sustainable Construction (LASC) in Waltham Forest.

This excellent, purpose built facility offers a comprehensive portfolio of CISRS scaffolding training, construction and green energy related qualifications and attracts learners from a wide geographical area.

Simian are providers of specialist scaffolding training and SpanSet, as a preferred supplier and approved CITB training provider, have expanded the portfolio of training courses available at LASC to include Work at Height and Rescue training specialising in Personal Fall Protective Equipment.

An ideal partnership and a great venue to hold a SpanSet Scaffold Technical Day on the subject of:

AVOIDING THE HIDDEN COSTS OF ACCIDENTS

With live, interactive demonstrations held by our experienced Instructors and with our Team of Height Safety & Lifting Experts on hand, the long-term consequences of a fall from scaffolding or a dropped object hitting someone was explored.

Following an introduction by SpanSet M.D. Pete Ward where the importance of being able to access a casualty to administer first aid as quickly as possible was discussed, a series of live demonstrations took place:-

  • Should a fall occur, will the distance fallen be as short as possible?  With Simon Mitchell using the new DSL3 Fall Arrest lanyard to explore this subject.

  • If the casualty is suspended out of reach, can they be rescued to a point of safety for the provision of First Aid quickly and safely? The Gotcha2 Rescue Kit was put through its paces by members of the SpanSet Training Team.

  • When lifting and lowering scaffold on site, is rated equipment and are safe lifting techniques being used to avoid dropped objects? The lifting of smaller objects such as scaffold clamps, boards etc come under the LOLER regulations.  The Safe Lifting kit was ably demonstrated by Steve Heaton.

Scaffolders deserve equipment specifically designed for the unique and complex work scaffold erection and dismantling is.

Equipment should be tough and of a quality built to last, plus of course traceable, making inspection and remaining compliant straightforward.

SpanSet understand the above and offer a wide range of products, training and inspection services to the scaffolding industry.
