FAQ Round Sling

What Is a Round Sling?

A round sling is a lifting equipment shaped in a continuous loop (endless). It is made from a high-strength synthetic fiber core (usually polyester) enclosed in a strong woven protective fabric cover. Its circular design allows even load distribution across the sling.

What Is the Main Function of a Round Sling?

Its primary function is to provide a safe connection between heavy loads and lifting equipment. Round slings are often used for irregularly shaped objects, delicate materials, or cylindrical loads due to their flexibility and softness.

What Are the Advantages of Using a Round Sling?

  • High durability: Contact points shift each use, reducing wear at a single point and extending service life.
  • Exceptional flexibility: Easily conforms to the load, ideal for awkward or irregular shapes.
  • Does not damage the load: Soft, non-abrasive outer surface protects items from scratches.
  • Lightweight: Easy for operators to handle, reducing hand injury risk.
  • Corrosion-resistant: Made from synthetic materials unaffected by rust or many chemicals.

Main Difference Between Round Sling and Flat Webbing Sling

  • Webbing Sling (Flat): Flat with eyes at the ends, wear occurs at the eyes or fixed contact points.
  • Round Sling: Closed tubular shape with circular fiber core; the entire loop is used for better load distribution.

How to Identify Working Load Limit (WLL) of a Round Sling?

WLL is marked on a permanent label. Round slings use the same international color codes as webbing slings:

  • Purple: 1 Ton
  • Green: 2 Ton
  • Yellow: 3 Ton
  • Gray: 4 Ton
  • Red: 5 Ton
  • Brown: 6 Ton
  • Blue: 8 Ton
  • Orange: 10 Ton and above

Each sling has a high safety factor, usually 7:1.

When Should a Round Sling Be Replaced?

Daily inspection is crucial. Discard if:

  • WLL label is missing or unreadable.
  • Tears, holes, cuts, or excessive abrasion on the outer cover.
  • Core fibers are visible or protruding.
  • Damage from heat (melting or burn marks).
  • Chemical or UV damage causing stiffening or color changes.

How to Maintain a Round Sling?

  • Storage: Cool, dry, well-ventilated place, away from direct UV and chemicals.
  • Avoid sharp edges: Use edge protectors when lifting loads with sharp corners to protect the cover.
  • Cleaning: Remove dirt or mud with water and mild detergent, allow to air dry before storage.
